OK I am studying my ROUTE exam at the moment and a few questions come too mind.
1 In the real world how often to you see EIGRP/OSPF authentication, I personally like anything that can be authenticated against else but as a non routing guy have not seen if this is used or not.
2 Frame relay, boy have I had “FUN” with frame relay. The question is how much frame relay do we see now, again as a non routing guy I would like to get a feel for this. Nearly all of my clients are running MPLS which in my eyes not having deployed MPLS makes life a lot easier as sites appear to present as if on an extended LAN infrastructure.
3 Refering to 2 above and to make me a more rounded engineer is there any benefit in lookinginto MPLS in greater detail, yes I know the simple answer is yes but that leads into should I try for a CCIP after my CCNP etc etc. I believe FR, ATM and MPLS operate in a similar architectural fashion, I will have to dig out that video if someone jumps up and down screaming they aren’t! And that is why FR is still a large core topic as it offers a foundation for technologie such as MPLS. CCIP is not that huge a leap as I think I like BGP, I actually understand it, so far” from a CCNP point of view and really need to get my head around QoS so maybe one day.
I hope a few of you guys can offer me some insight to the real wors of routing as its not a topic I touch in my daily grind.
