Question – IP Header:Options field

Under the options field in the IP header, some options described in the book “Routing TCP/IP Vol. 1 SE” (page 14) are Loose Source, Strict Source, Record Route and Timestamp. I would venture a guess that these options are probably for ICMP but do they have application in other areas?
