Good Evening.
I am trying to filter some RP announcements on my BSR, specifically 225.0.0.0/8 but it’s not working as expected. I guess I am overlooking something.
R5 is the rp-candidate and R1 is the BSR.
I created an access-list on the RP to specify what groups it should be the RP for.
R5#sh access-list
Standard IP access list R5-RP-GROUPS
10 permit 224.0.0.0, wildcard bits 7.255.255.255
20 permit 225.0.0.0, wildcard bits 0.255.255.255
30 permit 226.0.0.0, wildcard bits 0.255.255.255
40 permit 227.0.0.0, wildcard bits 0.255.255.255
R5#sh access-list
Standard IP access list R5-RP-GROUPS
10 permit 224.0.0.0, wildcard bits 7.255.255.255
20 permit 225.0.0.0, wildcard bits 0.255.255.255
30 permit 226.0.0.0, wildcard bits 0.255.255.255
40 permit 227.0.0.0, wildcard bits 0.255.255.255
Here is the information I get from the BSR concerning the RP mappings.
PIM Group-to-RP Mappings
This system is the Bootstrap Router (v2)

Ok that looks pretty good. Now I create two access lists on the BSR that look like this.
R1#show access-list
Standard IP access list R5-FILTER-GROUP
10 deny 225.0.0.0, wildcard bits 0.255.255.255
20 permit any
Standard IP access list R5-RP-LIST
10 permit 5.5.5.5
Finally I apply it with the command ip pim rp-announce-filter rp-list R5-RP-LIST group-list R5-FILTER-GROUP
I cleared the RP mappings and waited for the next update, but the debug ip pim still shows that 225.0.0.0 is being received. Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong here?
Thanks.
