So….created a topology of EIGRP routers and everything is working. Flip on ‘debug eigrp packets update query reply’ command and I want to mess with the network. When I add a network on a router, I watched EIGRP send an UPDATE message out it’s interfaces notifying neighbors of a new network turn-up. Nothing big here. When I inspect the neighbors debug output, I see the UPDATE get received and and passed to every neighbor including the neighbor that sent the original update message. This spans out across the network and every EIGRP router the UPDATE message hits, gets returned to the neighbor that sent the UPDATE message. UPDATE message should be considered reliable, right?
Why is this? Is this considered gratuitous communication in EIGRP?
Thanks
Mike
