Does Switch has feature that can avoid physical loop

Hi everyone

As I ask,We all know that STP can avoid forming a loop between  other switches.

If I use a line to connect two ports of a Switch.For example,to connect f0/1 and f0/2 . Does switch has feature to avoid loop like this ?

If it has, does this feature be used automaticly or it’s a cmd that we should start it manually
