Cisco introduced the CCIE certification in 1993 to assist the industry in distinguishing the top echelon of internetworking experts worldwide.
Today , CCIE certification holders represent less than 3% of all certified Cisco professionals and less than 1% of the networking professionals worldwide.
Here are some interesting things about the history of Cisco CCIE program:
- The CCIE was announced on 27th September 1993
- John Chambers (CEO of Cisco System) was instrumental in launching the CCIE certification
- The very first CCIE number was 1024 and was assigned to the testing lab
- Stuart Biggs (who designed the lab and wrote the test) was assigned CCIE# 1025
- The first non-Cisco employee to achieve the CCIE was Terry Slatterly, with CCIE# 1026
- CCIE is considered the “PHD” of IT

I finally got my number in August 2010. Don’t believe anyone who says?s its easy and not as hard. Their wrong or they don’t even have a CCIE. I got it after many hours of home study and I?ve achieved my career ambition of being a CCIE and it feels great. Don’t give up; it?s hard but not impossible. Anyone seen my leather jacket?
