3560/3750 Layer 3 Port Redundancy & Software Stacking

Hi,

I have a query about 3750 Layer 3 Port redundancy.

Suppose in a real world scenario you have a stack of 4 x 3750s setup with full stackwise cabling etc.

On Switch 1 – You have multiple Layer 3 ports dealing with L3 WAN links etc.

Suppose you want redundancy on this stack in the event that switch 1 breaks and is unusable!!

So basically I am asking is there a solution whereby I can replicate the config of the L3 ports on S1 to say S4 for example and just move the relevant cables

down from S1 to S4 without having to configure anything on S4??? Kind of in the style of L2 Flex Links.

This is a solution I need to make as easy as possible for end user customers etc. L2 is easy to accomodate this type of setup, but L3 is not so easy,

since you can’t configure the same IP L3 address on multiple interfaces at the same time on the one stack!?

The closest I have got for them was a MACRO which configures the S4 ports for them with the relevant config, plus a manual cable move etc!!

The last query I had was about 3560s. I thought I may have read somewhere that there is a software IOS type implementation whereby you can make

a set of 3560s act like a 3750 Stack. It uses standard UTP or Fibre Trunks etc between the 3560s and makes them act as one logical switch for config etc.

Any info much appreciated!!

Thanks as always guys!!

Ian.
